Lu Weibing, General Manager of Xiaomi’s Redmi brand, announced the upcoming release of a flagship smartphone powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor.
The named chip was officially unveiled the day before yesterday, December 1. Its key components are eight computing cores (one powerful Cortex-X1 core with a frequency of up to 2.84 GHz, three powerful Cortex-A78 cores, and four energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores), an Adreno 660 graphics accelerator, and a Snapdragon X60 5G modem with a data transfer rate up to 7.5 Gbps.
Xiaomi has already announced that it will be one of the first to launch a commercial smartphone based on the Snapdragon 888 platform: it will be the Mi 11, which may be presented as early as this month. According to rumors, the device will receive a Quad HD + display with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz.
As for the Snapdragon 888-based Redmi smartphone, its name has not been officially disclosed. Observers believe that it will be the Redmi K40 Pro model. Its official presentation is rumored to take place in March of the coming year. At the start of sales, the novelty may become one of the most affordable smartphones with a Snapdragon 888 processor.
