Big money at the auction can be earned not only on ancient artifacts or paintings by famous artists, but also on a seemingly trivial thing like a cartridge for a game, which is not yet 30 years old.
A few days ago, an auction was held on the Heritage Auctions site, at which a cartridge for the Nintendo 64 game console with the Super Mario 64 game went for an incredible 1,560,000 dollars, or about 119 million rubles. Yes, for that kind of money, you can buy more than a dozen very good Moscow apartments! Interestingly, this lot broke the previous record for the cost of a game cartridge almost twice – before that, a rare version of The Legend of Zelda sold for $ 870,000.
Recall that Super Mario 64 was released in 1996 and immediately became a hit, eventually selling over 11 million copies around the world. At the end of 2007, it was listed in the Guinness Book of Records as one of the best-selling games in history. It was in Super Mario 64 that true 3D first appeared with the ability to move in any direction, 3D polygonal models instead of 2D sprites, and large open spaces available for exploration.
Meanwhile, the Russian price was announced for one of the cheapest smartphones with a large amount of memory.
