Citing a forecast from analyst firm Strategy Analytics, the source said that 624 million 5G smartphones are expected to ship this year. For comparison: last year, 269 million such devices were shipped. That is, more than a twofold increase in supplies is expected compared to last year. Almost 136 million 5G smartphones have already been shipped in the first quarter of 2021, according to Strategy Analytics. It is easy to see that analysts in their forecast for the year generally assume that sales will grow throughout the year.
The source adds that the giant 5G smartphone market will continue to grow for a long time to come. Third-party estimates indicate that shipments of these devices are expected to reach 1.5 billion units in 2025. Among others, Micron Technology and Broadcom will benefit greatly from the market growth, as the former makes memory chips for mobile devices, and the latter supplies smartphone manufacturers with a wide range of components, including RF and navigation modules.
