Testing a smartphone is usually a tricky business. You need to evaluate the design, image quality, camera shooting, autonomy, and so on. But this is not a very common model. Its main feature is its incredible survivability.

Samsung Galaxy XCover 5 has a shock-resistant case, in addition, it is protected from water and dust according to IP68 – one of the highest protection classes. For example, if you drop it into water to a depth of one meter and leave it there for half an hour, nothing terrible should happen. We decided to arrange real tests for the smartphone: bury it, drown it, and if it remains alive, then try to break it.

By the way, the device does not look brutal – on the contrary, among protected smartphones this is the very elegance. Slim body, nice case finish, no loose plugs on the connectors … Compared to the Doogee S86 brick, which we also tested, the Galaxy XCover 5 looks like a stylish convertible against the backdrop of a harsh tractor.

We have been looking closely at the new device for a long time, still wondering whether we will return it safe and sound to the manufacturer. But then they decided. Our bullying, of course, was filmed – we are watching a short video.

Needless to say, each trial had several takes. Three times he was thrown into the children’s pool, five times he was hit against concrete. Surprisingly, the smartphone not only survived – there is not a scratch on its body! And this despite the fact that he entered our editorial office clearly not new – probably before us there were those who wanted to check the limit of its strength.

In terms of traditional characteristics, the smartphone looks more like a budget model. A 5.3-inch TFT screen with huge bezels, 4 GB of RAM, the only camera with a 16 megapixel sensor (not counting the 5 megapixel front camera). The Galaxy XCover 5 is more of a work tool than a personal gadget.

By the way, here’s another important feature: a removable battery. In order to replace it, you need to pry the back cover into a small recess on the right side and pull it up. You can see a small rubber gasket on the lid: when you put everything back, it is very important to properly snap the panel back.

About the battery itself: it’s not that big, 3000 mAh. Considering the small diagonal of the screen, even with active use, the battery lasts for a day, while there is support for 15W fast charging.

The Samsung Galaxy XCover 5 will be a great choice for those who don’t have regular smartphones for a long time. For example, for fishermen, hunters or hikers. Another potential audience is couriers and representatives of other specialties who constantly use a smartphone in a variety of conditions. So the smartphone will definitely find its buyer.
