Qualcomm’s flagship mobile platform Snapdragon 888, was officially announced this week at Snapdragon Summit 2020. Many manufacturers have already confirmed that they will release smartphones based on this SoC next year.
Qualcomm President An Meng, speaking with reporters after the presentation of the Snapdragon 888 SoC, answered several questions, one of which related to a potential Qualcomm branded gaming smartphone.
He stated that Qualcomm has indeed created many smartphone prototypes for its partners to showcase cutting-edge technology better. He added that Qualcomm would continue to do so in the future, but such devices will never be sold on the open market.

While some speculated that the company would unveil the Snapdragon 875 and its first gaming smartphone this week, the company ended up announcing the Snapdragon 888. It confirmed that there would be no Qualcomm smartphone.
