The James Dalton Highway, Alaska
This is one of the United States’ most remote roads. It is recommended that you only use trucks on the Dalton Highway and bring survival gear along just in case. If that sounds scary to you, it might be worth skipping this one. Most of the road surface is gravel.
Also known as the North Slope Haul Road, this highway was constructed in 1974. Its purpose was to offer support for the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System. This is one of the biggest pipeline systems ever. This 414 mile long road runs parallel to the pipeline, all the way from Deadhorse to Fairbanks.
