The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced the successful identification of the largest illegal crypto farm, which was located in one of the former premises of Vinnitsaoblenergo.
According to the SBU press service, this crypto farm was owned by residents of Kiev and Vinnitsa. According to preliminary data, the monthly amount of losses from the operation of the crypto farm ranged from 5 to 7 million hryvnia (from 13.7 to 19.2 million rubles).
The attackers illegally took electrical energy from the networks of Vinnitsaoblenergo JSC. To hide their activities, they used conventional means of accounting for electricity consumption. According to preliminary conclusions of experts, the monthly amount of losses from such activities can range from 5 to 7 million UAH. At the same time, illegal selection of electricity could lead to global consequences – entire quarters of Vinnitsa could be left without electricity.
During the searches at the location of the illegal crypto farm, as well as in the apartments of the suspects, 3.5 thousand game consoles, more than 500 video cards, 50 processors, as well as documentation on accounting for electricity consumption, phones and flash drives were seized.
By May last year, 35 cases of electricity theft by “black miners” in 20 regions of Russia were detected in Russia, and the loss in three years exceeded 450 million rubles.
