In-ear wired IE 300 and inexpensive HD 250BT

Sennheiser presented two new products from different price segments at the CES 2021 online exhibition. The first novelty is the expensive IE 300 headphones for audiophiles. The second is a relatively inexpensive pair of HD 250BT headphones that will delight tuber lovers.

Sennheiser IE 300

Let’s do it this way: a real audiophile will never use words like “wireless”, “Bluetooth” and “codecs” in his permanent audiophile vocabulary. Because, according to true audiophiles, the absence of wires will not give you that very real sound in any way: everything will be compressed and encoded into a terrible figure.

Therefore IE 300 are wired, which is quite logical. Moreover, these are compact in-ear headphones with 7 mm drivers. By the way, they are borrowed from the more expensive IE 800 S, the cost of which in Russian retail is close to 50 thousand rubles.

Sennheiser IE 300 will cost less: only 300 € (about 27 thousand rubles). If you are confused by this “everything”, then it is worth clarifying that three hundred euros for the audiophile market is, so to speak, start-up capital.

For this money, you get compact wired headphones that will be attached to your ear and wrapped with wire.

Sennheiser is very proud of these drivers. Company representatives promise approximately 0.08% harmonic distortion at 1 kHz at 94 dB. Outstanding indicator! An impedance of 16 ohms means that any source can drive these headphones. And the frequency range of the headphones from 6 to 20,000 Hz hints at very good and deep bass.

In theory, headphones can be made wireless. Fortunately, Sennheiser IE 300 has a replaceable wire, it can be connected using the MMCX connector:

If you have a certain amount of courage to contradict audiophiles, then you can buy a Bluetooth adapter that can also be connected via MMCX.

But the wire that comes with the headphones should be pretty good. At least, they did not forget to gild it in an audiophile way, as well as reinforce it with Kevlar. But if you want a very fatty fat, you can connect balanced cables with 2.5 or 4.4 mm connectors.

The headphones will go on sale in March. Local prices in the countries where you are reading this text are not yet known.

Sennheiser HD 250BT

And this model is simpler. Or for those who are simpler. There are no Kevlars here, and the frequency spectrum is quite standard: from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Sennheiser describes the sound of these headphones as “powerful club sound with dynamic bass.”

The HD 250BT is made of plastic, so the on-ear headphones weigh 125 grams. But there is Bluetooth 5.0, as well as support for AAC and aptX Low Latency codecs. These senhi are connected to a smartphone using the dedicated Sennheiser Smart Control App, available on both Android and iOS.

We are promised 25 hours of operation from one battery charge – a very decent figure. The headphones are charged using the USB Type-C connector for three hours, there is no fast charging.

By the way, together with the headphones, Sennheiser released and replaceable ear pads… Their cost has not yet been announced, but the possibility of replacement is good news!

Sennheiser HD 250BT is already available for purchase in European countries. Price – 70 €. When these headphones will appear in our countries is still unknown.
