More Linux laptops. HP has announced a new initiative to pre-install Ubuntu on select mobile workstations and laptops as the “Z by HP Data Science Software” package. This is not just a pre-installation of the OEM version of Ubuntu 20.04 LTS on your laptop but also a complete offering with a range of data analysis software packages.
Z by HP Data Science Software, in addition to the actual Ubuntu 20.04 working system, installs various libraries for data analysis, developer tools, Docker container support, and other add-ons. Components include NVIDIA RAPIDS and CUDA along with a custom driver and popular machine learning libraries like TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, and others.
Visual Studio Code, PyCharm, and other tools are included too. While the mobile workstations on which the software will be available will provide ample performance, HP Data Science Software’s Z Suite also includes the ability to migrate work to Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.
Devices that will be available under the new Ubuntu Linux Data Analysis Tools Preinstallation Initiative include the HP Z4, Z6, and Z8 Workstations and the HP ZBook Create G7 and ZBook Studio G7 Mobile Computers. Such proposals will appear before the end of the year, while others are expected in 2021. HP mobile workstations and notebooks offering Ubuntu under this program are currently limited to Intel processors and NVIDIA graphics and do not have options with AMD or Radeon graphics.
