At least 11 Mbps
We first learned about the SpaceX Starlink project at the end of 2016. Then the idea of providing access to the Web through orbiting satellites, although it did not seem fantastic, still looked extremely unexpected.
And, as has happened more than once in the case of SpaceX, not much time passed and the project was launched. There are currently 600 Starlink satellites in low Earth orbit. And even now, judging by the Speedtest database, this cohort of satellites provides download speeds of up to 60 Mbps. The minimum value recorded by the test is 11 Mbit / s.
This, of course, is far from the 1 Gbps promised by Musk, but Starlink implies 12,000 satellites in orbit. In addition, even if the data transfer rate does not significantly reach the declared one, it will still be many times faster than any alternative for many inhabitants of the Earth. However, when the project will start working in full force, where it will be available and at what price, is still unknown.
