Deception Pass Bridge (Washington)
Even from a distance, the Deception Pass Bridge seems forbidding. Whidbey Island and Fidalgo Island are connected by bridges that are 180 feet above the ocean.
Ferries were used by residents in the 1900s to traverse the lake. A saw and a drumstick were all they needed to keep their horse-and-buggy going until the boat came.

People now use the bridge to cross, but we’d rather take a chance on a boat. It’s a beautiful bridge, but it doesn’t seem to be very durable.
