While the adoption of 5G technology is still in its infancy, China is actively deploying next-generation networks to establish itself as the largest manufacturer and spearhead the next phase of the industrial revolution. This opinion is shared by experts from the consulting company ABI Research, predicting that by 2025 the number of 5G subscribers in the Chinese market will reach 739 million, or almost 40% of the world market. In terms of annual mobile data consumption, China’s 5G annual data traffic will reach 782 EB by 2025. This is almost 60% of the world’s 5G traffic.
Analysts point out that Chinese cellular network operators are state-owned, so they receive widespread support in the development of 5G networks. So, back in 2018, they received licenses to use 5G spectrum for testing, which gives them a great opportunity to plan the best network deployment strategies and prepare for the commercial launch of 5G.
Moreover, experts are confident that the ongoing trade war between the US and China and bans on the use of Chinese equipment in some countries will only accelerate the deployment of 5G in China. According to ABI Research, as of October 2020, 690,000 5G base stations had already been deployed in China, and the number of terminal connections exceeded 160 million.
