At the opening of the WWDC 2021 Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple announced an important innovation for its FaceTime video calling service.
Previously, FaceTime calls were only available to users of Apple devices, but now users of competing platforms, for example, from an Android smartphone or a Windows laptop, will be able to join a video meeting. This can be done through a browser.
The new mobile platform iOS 15 introduces the function of creating links to a FaceTime video meeting, this link can be sent to all friends and colleagues who can join it from their devices. FaceTime calls will remain end-to-end encrypted even on competing OS devices.
The new FaceTime feature will be available in the fall, along with the release of Apple’s new software platforms.
