Google continues to prepare for the release of a new version of the Android operating system. Meanwhile, enthusiasts are looking for more and more interesting features of Android 12.
One of the key components of Android has always been search, after all, it’s Google’s development OS. And one of the most convenient features available only for the proprietary launcher and Google widget is the universal search function – both across applications and on the web.
According to the AndroidPolice topic resource, referring to the developer documentation for Android 12, in the near future, universal search will be available for all launchers and applications, including those from third-party developers. At the moment, third-party launchers are limited to the list of installed applications, do not have tight integration with search engines and the like. For example, Nova Launcher can give a link to search on Google or Google Play, but nothing more.
The new AppSearchManager API will enable the centralized AppSearch index to be activated, possibly even including in-app actions. For example, it will be possible to search in Google Doc or specific saved photos in the Gallery.
