The COVID-19 pandemic has boosted demand for IT products, but shortages of components such as chips are hampering it. TrendForce analysts estimate that monitor panel shipments in the first quarter of this year decreased by 8.6% qoq. A total of 39.9 million units were shipped. In addition to the lack of components, the decision of the Samsung Display Company (SDC) to stop production of panels for monitors affected.

TrendForce said SDC will exit the monitor panel business after it fulfills its plan to ship 1.2 million panels in the first half of the year. This figure represents a staggering 93.8% decline from 19.3 million panels shipped by SDC last year.

However, shipments of monitor panels in 2021 will increase over 2020 as the component shortages are gradually eliminated.
